  1. Objective

The session was made apparently for collecting user requirements for the NeXOS project Requirements are referred to sensor networks in terms of sensors themselves

  1. Discussion summary
  • scientists practices and experiences shall be taken into account during the design of new sensors
  • sometimes instruments are very precise but not robust enough for the purpose of time series analysis
  • sensor cost should be calculated taking into account all the life-cycle of it (maintanance, calibration,...)
  • sensors should be intelligent enough:
    • to geolocate themselves
    • detect major faults
    • track changes
    • change metadata while changing status
  • MD should be more comprehensive as data are used for purposes not foreseen when sensors are deployed
  • no clear and unified strategy for calibration hampers the use of data
  • extending the life time of sensors
  • remotely addressable instruments
  • consider and record the full deployment/operation environment (in MD)
