- Objective
The session was made apparently for collecting user requirements for the NeXOS project Requirements are referred to sensor networks in terms of sensors themselves
- Discussion summary
- scientists practices and experiences shall be taken into account during the design of new sensors
- sometimes instruments are very precise but not robust enough for the purpose of time series analysis
- sensor cost should be calculated taking into account all the life-cycle of it (maintanance, calibration,...)
- sensors should be intelligent enough:
- to geolocate themselves
- detect major faults
- track changes
- change metadata while changing status
- MD should be more comprehensive as data are used for purposes not foreseen when sensors are deployed
- no clear and unified strategy for calibration hampers the use of data
- extending the life time of sensors
- remotely addressable instruments
- consider and record the full deployment/operation environment (in MD)
